Jubilations As UI Celebrates 2021/2022 Matriculation Amid ASUU Strike

The University of Ibadan amidst the warning strike, held its matriculation ceremony today, 15th of February, 2022. The ceremony took place at the early hour of today at the International Conference Centre (ICC). To many, the admission came as a bundle of joy after the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown and the long strike action in 2020.

We went around to ask matriculating students about their journey so far, how they felt and the strike. We manage to talk few of them and here are their responses:

“It’s been tough to be honest, being trying to get here since 2019, but I thank God for everything now. Unfortunately, we are on strike(laugh)”

Lady 1

“You see ehn! I don’t even know what to say cos It’s kind of weird to gain admission in 2021 and doing matric in 2022(chuckle). I must say, I like the way I’m feeling now.

Lady 2

“Though I’m not happy about the whole thing but wetin man go do. We have to thank God and move!”

Man 1

“(Excited) it’s actually exciting to be here at last, it has been a childhood dream to study in the first and the best citadel of learning.”

Man 2

You know they used to say “the patient dog eat the fattest bone”, I think that what happened in my case, I have lost hope of getting admission after trying twice but I got it in my last try. Is God not wonderful?!

Man 3

“(Confused) I don’t really have much to say, but I’m glad I am finally here after waiting for so long(laughing hard)”

As the freshers are now formal students of the first and the best, we congratulate them and wish them the very best during their stay on campus. It is very obvious that reaching this milestone hasn’t been easy so we celebrate with you and will formally welcome you with Aro.
