House of Representatives Calls for Shutdown of National Assembly Over Insecurity

Glaringly, It is really disheartening how the security of a once peaceful country has become so debilitating. With news of insecurity increasing everyday, Nigeria is almost a shadow of Her former self. In bid to call the Federal Government’s Inaction to order, the House of Representatives has put forward the suggestion to shut down the National Assembly.

The House of Rep on Thursday, 31st March, 2021 adjourned plenary over the state of insecurity in the country. The Nigerian lawmakers intended to use the suggestion to compel President Muhammadu Buhari to wake up to his responsibility of protecting the lives and properties of Nigerian citizens.


Following the recent attacks and threats in the country, the lawmakers strongly criticised President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime and the security agencies. Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, The Majority Leader, stated that the current situation is a “regimented failure”, while noting how emotionally disturbed the House of Rep is about the lack of peace in certain areas across the country.

While speaking, The Majority Leader stated that the despite the fact that the National Assembly always appropriated more funds for the security agencies, the state of unrest in country remain disturbing.
