UNILAG Announces First Female VC

As previously reported, UNILAG finally announced its new Vice Chancellor in the person of Professor Folashade Ogunsola.

Since the establishment of the university of first choice and nation’s pride, a female has never taken the post of Vice-Chancellor. That means Professor Folashade Ogunsola has broken a 60-year-long record to become our first female VC.

Professor Folashade Ogunsola is a Professor of Microbiology at the College of Medicine, so most people on the main campus might not know her. Her 5 year-long tenure is to take effect from November 12th 2022, and end on November 11th 2027. Professor Folashade Ogunsola will officially be inaugurated as the 13th Vice Chancellor of UNILAG.

Her win as the acting VC means she beat 6 other potential candidates to it at the special meeting of the Council held today, Friday, 7th October 2022. The other candidates were:

  1. Abayomi Akinyeye – Department of History, Faculty of Arts
  2. Mathew Ilori  – Department of Microbiology and Botany, Faculty of Sciences.
  3. Adeyinka Adekunle – Department of Microbiology and Botany, Faculty of Sciences.
  4.  Imran Smith – Faculty of Law
  5. Timothy Nubi – Department of Estate Management, Faculty of Environmental Sciences.
  6. Ayo Olowe –  Department of Finance, Faculty of Management Sciences.
