5 reasons why you should be running from situationships.

E don cast, las las, na everybody go chop breakfast…. It doesn’t mean that you should serve it to yourself on a golden platter. Even after reading this article gan, some of you are so stubborn, you’ll still end up getting into a situationship. A situationship is literally a “makeshiftrelationship. Y’all like each other but are willing to go a whole year without a title? Be deceiving yourselves. Are you still not convinced that you should avoid situationships? Let me give you five concrete reasons why you should.

   1. They always end in premium tears.

They do, they always do. The only reason why a guy/ lady will tell you that they aren’t ready for a relationship after a six month long talking stage is because they really aren’t ready. No hoping, imagining or hallucinating will change that. It could also be a sign that they don’t really like you all that much or the person is looking for a fling. When you eventually come to your senses, you’ll cry and cry and feel so angry and stupid because everyone saw it coming—including you. When the rose coloured shades of love fall off, you’ll see to it for yourself. You gave your energy, time, and resources to someone only to realise that they were wasting your time.

2. The constant anxiety and stress aren’t worth it.

It’s only in situations where there are actual rights that you can fight for your rights. You’re not his girlfriend or her boyfriend. *Drags your ear* you’re just a special friend. So, every day, you wake up and the number one question on your mind is “when will he ask me out?” or “Does she really like me?” and when you ask these questions, they fill you up with temporary hope by telling you “Soon” It’s alright until you start overthinking, worrying, asking for advice all to no avail. Because no one can really help you until you are willing to help yourself.

3. You don’t look good in green.

Green is the colour commonly associated with jealousy. Hence the expression, “you’re green with envy.” You don’t have any rights, so you can’t tell your crush, “Please stop hanging out with Chioma, I don’t like the way she looks at you.” You don’t have the right to demand that she tells you before going to see her male friends. You have NO RIGHTS, absolutely none. And when you realise that every liked picture, every wrong look, every girl/ boy who receives more attention than you do will start to irk you. And you can do nothing but watch the scene unfold because they aren’t actually yours.

 4. It’ll be so hard to move on to something better afterwards.

Okay, real talk, relationships, whether they’re platonic or romantic usually leave a mark when they don’t end well. It’ll be so difficult coming to terms with heartbreak and the feeling of betrayal that you may actually not want to try again. It happens. Either that, or you’ll be so hung up on the person that you just lost that you won’t really want to move on. You might just be there, hoping and waiting for them to have a change of heart. You might even send a dm and end up in the same doomed cycle all over again. And who knows, your Mr/miss right might just be around the corner, waiting for you to notice them. But they won’t wait forever.

5. Your pride will take a hit.

If not because of anything else, avoid situationships because of your pride. Have a bit of dignity, have some pride. You have an image to protect, and you have to look out for your own self-worth. We can’t have someone who isn’t completely sure of their own feelings making you look like an idiot. You aren’t stupid for falling in love or for giving people a chance, but we all know how easy it is to start beating ourselves up when someone plays/deceives us. Look out for yourself and do what will benefit you in the long run.
