1. 5 dead, 15 injured in Lagos-Ibadan expressway accident.

 

 

About five people were said to have died in an auto crash that occurred in the Kara Bus stop section of this infamous bridge. 15 more suffered varying injuries and are currently at the hospital receiving treatment. The accident involved a truck and an interstate commercial bus. No one knows what exactly caused the accident and as usual, there was traffic afterwards.

 

2. DHQ steps in to spit facts about the attack on the Kogi governor.

 

 

The defence headquarters has dismissed the allegations that its military officer attacked Yahaya Bello, the current Kogi state governor. Bello had said that there was an assassination attempt on his life whilst he was on his way to an official engagement. However, the commissioner for information for Kogi State announced that the attackers had only been dressed like military personnel and didn’t actually work for the DHQ.

 

3. Communities seek Adeleke’s help concerning indefinite blackouts.

 

 

The people of several areas in Osun state have appealed to the governor to step in and ensure that the electricity distribution company restores electricity to the communities. The appeals were contained by a statement that was cosigned by some government officials. The electricity had initially ceased when community clashes took place in these areas.

 

4. Truck kills two in Kwara.

 

 

Two people, an unidentified police officer and a sugar cane seller were involved in an accident in Jebba, Moro local government. This incident happened at one of the checkpoints in the town. According to an eye-witness, a truck veered off the road before hitting the victims. Authorities say that two were killed while two others were injured in the accident.

 

5. Gombe police catch suspected killers of a mother of eight.

 

 

The Gombe state police announced on Sunday that suspected killers of a 58 year old mother of eight, Aishatu Abdullahi, had been apprehended. This report is coming two days after she was killed for refusing to give her mobile phone to the criminals. The governor, Muhammadu Yahaya has assured the people that the perpetrators will not be able to escape from justice.

6. Borno disallows street begging and loitering.

 

 

The Borno state government no longer permits street begging in Maiduguri state and the regions around it. The state commissioner, Prof. Usman Tar, issued a statement to this effect on Sunday. Tar said street begging and aimless walking were not part of the Borno culture. The notice makes it clear that the ban was immediate.

7. Ekiti begins the second round of palliatives.

 

 

The governor of Ekiti state, Biodun Oyebanji has commenced the second phase of palliatives for the people of Ekiti. This is about two weeks after the government began the monthly transfer of 5000 naira to indigent citizens of the state. The consumables; rice and maize were to be provided by the federal and state government.

8. Supreme Court justices reduced to 10 as Dattijo retires.

 

 

A justice of the supreme court, Musa Dattijo will officially retire on Friday, October 27, 2023. With this development, the apex court has been reduced to 10 justices, short of the 11, required by Sections 230(2) of the constitution. Festus Akande, court spokesperson has announced that there will be a valedictory court service held in his honour on Friday.

9. Russia targets Ukraine mail depot, six dead.

 

 

Missiles from Russia have killed at least six postal workers while 17 others had injuries. The missiles hit a mail depot in Ukraine’s northern eastern Kharkiv region. It was president Volodymir Zelensky that shared the video of a damaged warehouse with the Ukraine postal logo on social media. Victims were aged between 19 and 42.

10. Iran warns Israel that the middle east is bound to go out of control.

 

 

Iran has warned Israel that the middle east could spiral out of control if it does not stop attacking Gaza. Iran’s Foreign minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian gave this warning during a news conference. He also blames the US for providing military support to Israel. Hours later, the Israeli prime minister came out to say that his people were In a battle for their lives and the war against Hamas is “do or die”

11. More gist on Argentina’s presidential election.

 

 

The battle between Argentina’s electoral candidates is likely to head towards a run off vote next month. The major candidates are left wing candidate Sergio Massa and far right libertarian Javier Milei. This report comes from data released on Sunday. Massa received the highest number of votes which was about 36.33% of votes cast while Milei received roughly 30.18%

 

12. Hurricane Norma and Tammy causing major damage.

 

 

Hurricane Norma came ashore near the resorts of Los Cabos at the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula and a while later Hurricane Tammy made landfall on the Caribbean island of Barbuda. Both storms were category one when they hit the towns.

13. Nigerian student allegedly killed by group of Chinese in the Philippines.

 

 

A Nigerian student only known as Ikem for now, was murdered by a group of Chinese people in the republic of Philippines. A friend of the deceased, Micheal Ojuola made this clear on his X page on Sunday. According to him, Ikem was tied up, had his mouth covered and was beaten up until he died. He called on the appropriate authorities to address the situation.

14. Gombe state college of Education student killed.

 

 

A Gombe state college of Education student, Yosi Yusuf, was killed by unidentified assailants on Sunday. He was pursuing a degree in education before his death. He was in his third year and resided in Zazzagawa quarters. Yosi was an off-campus student. Investigations have already commenced and the Gombe state police have assured the public that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.

15. Lautech University announces resumption on Iseyin campus.

 

 

LAUTECH has announced the official commencement of lectures at its Iseyin campus. The Registrar of the University, Kayode Ogunleye, said that the 200 level students in the College of Agricultural sciences and Renewable natural resources should resume lectures at the Iseyin campus on Monday October 23, 2023.

16. Old students of 14 Lagos schools unite to make an impact.

 

 

Old students from 14 different schools, including King’s College, Methodist Girls and Boys, and Queens college, have come together to form a union that will impact society and elevate their alma mater. The students left secondary school in 1997 and are called the “97 model movement” They came out together, wearing their old school uniform, expressing their desire to move the country forward.
